My Beautiful Broken Mind

Not long ago I saw a lecture by Swami Sarvapriyananda on youtube, in which he quoted the famous German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer:

“In the whole world there is no study so beneficial and so elevating as that of the Upanishads. It has been the solace of my life and it will be the solace of my death.”

The Bhagavad Gita is described as the essence of the Upanishads, writes Swami Ranganathananda in his book The Universal Message of the Bhagavad Gita: Its message is universal, practical, strengthening and purifying. A science of human development and fulfillment. 700 Verses in 18 chapters, full of beautiful ideas, so relevant to the times in which we are living.

Now: yesterday I was checking Netflix for recently added movies and found one that seemed interesting to me. It was a documentary about a woman that suffered a stroke at 34 years old. I don’t want to give anything away, but the first thing you see on screen is a quote from the Upanishads. This will be a good movie to watch, I thought. And it was absolutely brilliant! So I wanted to share it’s trailer here:

I’m still in awe: how beautifully eloquent she speaks despite the aphasia! It seems like that what comes from the soul has no limitations…

Gouache in The Wild

To keep myself inspired to draw/paint during the summer holidays I downloaded a great tutorial on using gouache en plein air from and with James Gurney. I happen to have 2 books by him that I recently consulted, so it was a nice surprise to find his vid(s) and a fun blog btw: http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.nl

Here’s an impression of his tutorial “Gouache in The Wild”
